Made with fresh green beans, crispy fried onions, and a rich mushroom sauce, this casserole is an absolute must for any feast. Perfect for Thanksgiving, Christmas, or any cozy family meal! 🍽️💚
Ingredients
1 lb fresh green beans, trimmed and cut into 2-inch pieces
1 can (10.5 oz) cream of mushroom soup 🍄
1/2 cup milk 🥛
1 cup shredded cheddar cheese 🧀 (optional)
1/4 tsp black pepper
1 tsp soy sauce (for extra umami flavor)
1 1/2 cups crispy fried onions 🧅 (divided)
Directions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
- Blanch the Green Beans: In a pot of boiling water, cook green beans for 5 minutes until bright green and slightly tender. Drain and rinse under cold water to stop cooking.
- Mix the Sauce: In a large bowl, combine cream of mushroom soup, milk, shredded cheese (if using), black pepper, and soy sauce. Stir well until smooth and creamy.
- Assemble the Casserole: Add the green beans and 1 cup of the crispy fried onions to the sauce. Mix everything together and pour it into the prepared baking dish.
- Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for 25 minutes until bubbly. Carefully remove from the oven.
- Top and Finish: Sprinkle the remaining crispy fried onions on top. Return the dish to the oven and bake for another 5 minutes, or until the onions are golden brown.
- Serve Hot: Let the casserole sit for a few minutes, then serve warm and enjoy! 😋✨
Pro Tips:
- For an extra touch, use fresh mushrooms sautéed with garlic instead of canned soup.
- Add a pinch of cayenne pepper or a dash of Worcestershire sauce for a subtle kick!
